NIMBY - Nimbyism Not in My Backyard Sprawl Motto

NIMBY - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "NIMBY or Nimby is an acronym for the phrase "not in my back yard". The term (or the derivative Nimbyism) is used pejoratively to describe opposition by residents to a proposal for a new development close to them."

Sprawl is based on the flight from the city.

Architects and designers conspired with developers to serve the base motive to stratify and segregate the society.

Occupy should insist on the right of people to have a habitat that includes all we presently zone out.

Correct this noxious flight from justice and common sense.. Create  new car-free cyber-communities, smart, diverse, vibrant. Reverse the nightmare we have been living in since the 1960s.

Correct that. Until suburbs turned into sprawl. We are talking a century-long process.

All the more reason we should insist Mitt censure Rush

Would Mitt Like To Fire Bain Employee Rush Limbaugh? | National Memo | Breaking News, Smart Politics: "In the wake of Rush Limbaugh's torrent of ignorant misogyny, just about everyone has jumped to condemn the conservative radio host's comments. Several of Limbaugh's corporate sponsors have dropped him, and politicians from both sides of the aisle -- such as Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner -- have denounced him. Even anti-contraception culture warrior Rick Santorum has labeled Limbaugh "absurd."

One notable exception? Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney, who has been silent on the issue. Here's a fun possible reason why the "King of Bain" won't speak up:

The Rush Limbaugh Show is aired by Premiere Networks, a massively profitable syndication network which is owned by Clear Channel Communications.

Clear Channel Communications is owned by Bain Capital."

Wrong. Architects and Designers Are Not Listening

Why Don't We Read About Architecture? - NYTimes.com: "But as the architecture and design critic Lange points out in her new book, “Writing About Architecture,” we need to engage our citizenry in architecture in ways that move from passivity or accusation (i.e., Nimbyism) and to do so we need more … architecture critics."

Sensible Solution to the Sticky State Pension Problem

How to Pay for Pensions - NYTimes.com: "State and local governments everywhere are in sticker shock over the rising cost of public-employee pensions and scrambling to manage those obligations. New York State has taken a reasonable approach that allows public employers to pay a portion of their yearly contributions to New York’s $140 billion public pension fund and to pay the remainder in installments, with interest, over a decade."

Santorum Does Not See, an Most Americans Do, That Time Is Inexorable

Santorum and the Sexual Revolution - NYTimes.com:

"Rick Santorum wants to bring sexy back ... to the 1950s, when he was born.

That is because Santorum seems to have an unhealthy fixation with, and passionate disdain for, the 1960s and the sexual freedoms that followed."

How about we make nice to Iran or Would That Be Too Smart?

Starving Iran Won’t Free It - NYTimes.com: "Western sanctions, once “targeted” and now blanket, are turning into a form of collective punishment. They are designed, we are told, to force the Islamic government to return to the nuclear negotiating table. Western politicians also seem to believe that punishing the Iranian people might lead them to blame their own government for their misery and take it upon themselves to force a change in the regime’s behavior, or even a change in the regime itself. But as the old British maxim recognized, deprivation in Iran is a recipe for the status quo."

Chain of Avoidable Errors Cited in Koran Burning - NYTimes.com: "KABUL, Afghanistan — American and Afghan officials investigating the Koran-burning episode that has brought relations between the countries to a new low say that the destruction could have been headed off at several points along a chain of mishaps, poor judgments and ignored procedures, according to interviews over the past week."

The BP Settlement Has Miles To Go Before It's Done

Accord Reached Settling Lawsuit Over BP Oil Spill - NYTimes.com: "David M. Uhlmann, who headed the Justice Department’s environmental crimes section from 2000 to 2007, said, “The plaintiffs’ steering committee really needs to reach a settlement with BP” because otherwise it could face years of litigation and might obtain less at trial than it could receive in a settlement.

At the same time, said Mr. Uhlmann, now a professor at the University of Michigan law school, said, “BP really needs to reach a settlement with the government” which could extract many more billions from the company in civil and criminal proceedings. Moreover, he said, the company would like to avoid the embarrassment of having its mistakes paraded in open court."

No one should be ASKED to pay a fair share

While the premise of the above is utterly true, the rhetoric is wrong. You do not ASK the wealthy to pay a fair share. You legislate a fair code for all. I do not understand why the deficiencies of a hat in hand approach have not been perceived and corrected.
