We're revving up for war with Iran

We're revving up for war with Iran
Just read the Times Magazine
The Times always broadcasts wars to come
That's what journalism has become
Knowing our doom in advance
Reminding us of the democratic control we lack

Clinton Bill and Gramm Phil Killed Glass-Steagall One Day

Clinton Bill and Gramm Phil
Killed Glass-Steagall one day
Sharing the blame
For the disastrous way
We've gone since their murderous act

Sandy Weill is an accessory
Whose love of money was huge
With Wall Street intact it echoes Sandy
Apres nous la deluge
Dodd-Frank is a mere bandaid
Crime remains unpaid

This is the only family there is

The Tao in Mark:

The seer’s mother and whole family
Were like everyone the seer loved
All were one who heard and understood
Only one who can forgive is good
This is the only family there is

GOP's rudeness seems unstoppable

Noxious Oil: Noxious Fumes Almost Led to An Exodus in China: "Noxious Fumes Almost Led to An Exodus in China"

'via Blog this'

In a hearing on the Canadian pipeline matter last Wednesday, some GOP representatives were so rude as to dishonor the House. The pipeline will doubtless get built but it will do little good in the long run. We are moving past oil. We are waiting for the proper nudge from reality in the form of inventions that will revolutionize society. Unfortunately politics does not share such faith though it is what has driven invention from the beginning. And capitalism is more concerned with gadgetry and marketing than the bigger vision that animated the likes of Ayn Rand.

The world keeps time in ways we may not know

Who art are words King James’ translators wrote
And we can parse their meanings easily
The Who a Person clearly does denote
The art denotes the present perfectly

The world keeps time in ways we may not know
For finally beyond's past all we see
At best we can keep time as best we can

Charles Sanders Peirce on how scientists come to agree

Charles Sanders Peirce on how scientists come to agree

[Quoting Peirce] "One man may investigate the velocity of light by studying the transit of Venus and the aberration of the stars; another by the oppositions of Mars and the eclipses of Jupiter’s satellites; a third by the method of Fizeau; a fourth by that of Foucault; a fifth by the motions of the curves of Lissajoux; a sixth, a seventh, an eighth, and a ninth, may follow the different method of comparing the measures of statical and dynamical electricity. They may at first obtain different results, but, as each perfects his method and his processes, the results are found to move steadily together toward a destined center. So with all scientific research. Different minds may set out with the most antagonistic views, but the progress of investigation carries them by a force outside themselves to one and the same conclusion. (Collected Papers, 5.407)”

Oakland Arrests - Had you forgotten Occupy?

300 arrested in Occupy Oakland protests - CBS News: "(AP) OAKLAND, Calif. — Dozens of police maintained a late-night guard around City Hall following daylong protests that resulted in 300 arrests. Occupy Oakland demonstrators broke into the historic building and burned a U.S. flag, as officers earlier fired tear gas to disperse people throwing rocks and tearing down fencing at a convention center."

There must be some reason I still believe in this stuff

Cultural Conversation: The New Theories of Moral Sentiments - WSJ.com: "By elimination, Ms. McCloskey concludes that culture and rhetoric are the only factors that can account for economic change of the magnitude we have seen in the developed world in past 250 years.

The danger of our era is that the bourgeois deal is slowly crumbling away. It is under attack from the political left and also from economists whose work revolves around one sole virtue—prudence—thus eroding the public understanding of markets and economic life. Looking at the West's current economic woes, it is easy to share Ms. McCloskey's concern that unless we revive a sense of dignity and approbation for entrepreneurship and innovation, we might easily kill the goose that lays the golden eggs of our prosperity."

Sometimes I wonder if attention deficit is not just alienation from your school

Children’s A.D.D. Drugs Don’t Work Long-Term - NYTimes.com:

"In 30 years there has been a twentyfold increase in the consumption of drugs for attention-deficit disorder."

Maybe there has been a 20 fold increase in intelligence (alienation, authoritarianism)
Which says that school is not doing it for me
I will not conform to this
Try and make me
Welcome to our strait-jacket one size fits all society

Romney could end up licking wounds in his rebuilt California mansion

Advantage Romney in February, but Risks Abound - NYTimes.com:

'via Blog this'

Nate awards February to Romney but qualifies his narrow margins by suggesting risks. The main story continues to be Romney's unseemly use of money to overpower opponents, relying on the media's general willingness to suggest that such a contest reflects the will of the people and is therefore democratic. I am waiting to see what would happen if the media began to make money the measure and gave up the current distorted narrative. We are in a cointest between the power of wall-to-wall ads and the capacity of people to not take that anymore. If the latter force wins, then Romney and all his money can go back and lick wounds in the mansion he is rebuilding in California.
